HELP THE ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN
In as much as we claim to love children, most of us are only concerned about our biological children. Who cares about what happens to those poor orphans who do not have parents to turn to, or someone to call a loved one? The number of orphans and vulnerable children (estimated to be 17.5 million in Nigeria) increases daily and we have failed to notice. While we have places to call home, surrounded by people who love and would do anything for us, these orphans don’t have anybody. Some of them hawk on the streets just to survive; sleep under the bridge, or inside buses, anywhere but home. As for those who have guardians, most of them are turned into slaves, given ill treatment, sexually abused, or even killed. Yet we say “all children are gifts from God” and we don’t even treat them equally. We look at them with disdain just because they look unkempt or because they are not as shiny as our own children. Don’t forget they were born the same way our own children were born.
All we privileged, God didn’t make us rich just so that we can flaunt it and oppress the poor. How much love have we shown to the less privileged? We have traveled all over the world, but how many poor children have we taken off the street or personally trained through school? If we are rich, and the people around us are not influenced positively by us, then our wealth may be considered worthless. From experience, there is nothing like helping people, nothing like putting smiles on sad faces…there’s this fulfillment that comes with helping others. It’s just unexplainable. It’s worth experiencing. Believe me when I say “when a child happily prays for you, all is sure to be well with you”
